Menagerie Buffalo Check Quilt

A quick and easy baby quilt finish, and a parade of photos!

I recently finished up this adorable baby quilt, and I’m beyond pleased with how it turned out!

I had seen a similar quilt made up using an older line of floral fabric, and decided that it would look classic and modern at the same time if I used Menagerie fabrics.  I wasn’t wrong 🙂

This quilt came together soooooo quickly, using the Buffalo Check Quilt pattern from Empty Bobbin.  I had used this same pattern last year to make a throw sized, perfect-for-winter-red-and-black quilt, and knew that it would also look nice in a smaller size.

I used two different colours of the same print (a light and a dark), plus my trusty Moda Bella 97 for the white. I find it to be the perfect creamy white for almost all my projects.  It’s not too stark, but still looks clean and crisp.

For the backing, I used a Dear Stella flannel in this gorgeous white and grey print.  It is THE. SOFTEST. FLANNEL. I have no idea what they do to it, but it feels like it’s made from kitten fur.

The binding is from the Knock on Wood line for Riley Blake Designs.  I’m happy to report that I picked up all the fabric for this quilt (except the white) during Thread Count Fabric’s Black Friday sale.  Huzzah!  AND given that they’re “local” to me, the fabric arrived in two days!  Quite a bit faster than the usual 3-4 weeks I wait for fabric to arrive from the US.

Have I mentioned the metallic accents on this fabric?  It’s quite subtle but striking at the same time.  Well done Rifle Paper Co!

The machine quilting and binding were done using my trusty Juki TL 2010-Q, which I brought home last summer during the rain storm to end all rain storms.

There’s a reason you see so many quilters using this machine – my seams turn out a perfect scant 1/4″ every time, like it’s this machine’s J-O-B.  The walking foot leaves a little to be desired, but I’ve found that I’m able to quilt using the regular foot.

This quilt measures 39″x45″, and is listed for sale in my Etsy shop.  You can find complete details at the item’s listing page.

Update: This quilt has now sold, but other listings can be viewed by visiting my Etsy shop.  Please contact me if you would like me to create something similar for you or someone you love!
